IAG Adds Gogo 2Ku to 137 Aircraft

Gogo announced today that it will partner with British Airways' parent company International Airlines Group (IAG) to "install Gogo’s 2Ku system on 118 British Airways aircraft, four Aer Lingus Boeing 757, and up to 15 Iberia long-haul aircraft, for a total of 137 aircraft." IAG is one of the largest airline groups in the world and is the first European airline group to commit to 2Ku. The fleet of Gogo-installed aircraft will include numerous long-haul aircraft types, including the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380. Perhaps more significant is that IAG is not part of the Delta's SkyTeam Alliance, but rather the OneWorld alliance with American Airlines, representing a broadening of the customer base and rapid expansion to other parts of the world.

"[This] announcement represents a major vote of confidence in the new technology, and comes just one day after Delta announced it doubled its commitment to Gogo’s 2Ku solution, boosting its planned rollout to nearly its entire mainline fleet of more than 600 aircraft." The first British Airways aircraft is expected to be in service early next year. The bulk of the installations are expected to be completed by 2019.

This now brings the running total number of aircraft with and to receive ThinKom's ThinAir Ku3030 (Gogo branded 2Ku) to over 1400.
